Cambridge English: Advanced, also known as the Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English (CAE) is a high level qualification specifically focused on the context of both demanding academic and professional settings. Students will learn advanced language skills in order to prepare them for higher level study at University or a professional employment environment.
TOEIC is a globally recognized test that measures English language ability for
professional purposes in reading, writing, listening and speaking. This test is for
intermediate and advanced level learners of English who wish to be proficient in
business English before they enter the professional arena. Employers worldwide,
particularly in Asia and increasingly in Europe, use this test to assess English language for the workplace.
TOEIC is divided into two parts, Listening and Reading, and Writing and Speaking.
The Reading and Listening portion is given a score between 10 and 990 and the
speaking and writing portions are given a score out of 200. Both of these scores
reflect the level of English of the test taker, however, the Listening and Reading score is the most commonly used score.

Classes have a fun, practical focus and focus on all areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Class work is theme-based: activities are focus on a weekly or bi-weekly topic, usually following the English course book syllabus, so that students can develop useful vocabulary and share ideas in group discussions.
English grammar and structure are introduced progressively and used in class communication activities. Students also receive cross-cultural training to help you become accustomed to New Zealand life quickly and easily.
Overseas High School students intending to study at New Zealand High Schools would need a good level of English. Direct enrolment into New Zealand High School is possible but it is recommended that students improve their English and learn about New Zealand before attempting to study at the High Schools.

The English with Horse Riding programme provides students with the opportunity to not only learn English with highly qualified and experienced teachers, but also enjoy the excitement of horse riding as part of their study experience. As we know that many of our students may have little or no experience with horses, we take great care to ensure that they are given access to the best riding professionals to introduce students to horse riding.

WIE is located just 40 minutes away from the coastal town of Raglan, well renowned for its mild temperatures, great waves and surfing culture.
With several beaches for both beginners and advanced surfers, Raglan is one of the top surfing destinations in New Zealand, and has the longest left-hand break in the world.
The town itself is laid-back, crafty and surfer-friendly with a pretty main street and plenty of yummy food, beer and local accommodation on offer.
The English + Surfing Program provides students the unique chance to improve their English and learn the amazing sport of surfing in New Zealand.
Students will spend their mornings learning English from our highly qualified and experienced tutors leaving the afternoons free to be up on the waves in Raglan working with a local professional surfing instructor. In addition to the surfing instruction, students can look forward to beach barbecues and similar gatherings after a great day at the beach.
WIE’s General English with Internship Programme is a combination of our NZQA
accredited General English course and an additional Internship relating to the
student’s field of study. The course is designed for students wanting to improve
their English skills in all areas and increase their confidence using English in
everyday situations.
Students sit a comprehensive written and oral placement test on their first day,
to place them in the class most suitable for them. Assessment is continuous
throughout the course; students are formally tested every 6 weeks and receive
regular feedback.

English Studies for Restaurant Workers has been developed at a special early time to give those who work all day and into the
night the opportunity to their English Language abilities.
Having English language abilities gives more opportunities in work and helps meet Immigration New Zealand’s English language requirements.

Waikato Institute of Education is working collaboratively with Local New Zealand Institute of Technology to meet the needs for Nursing students.
We have identified a need for this programme as our market research has indicated that nursing is one of the most desired study choices for international students and migrants. A current shortage of nurses and health professionals in NZ has created many opportunities for immigrants who already possess an equivalent nursing qualification* to gain employment in NZ. International students who choose to, or who already study a NZ nursing degree will also have the opportunity, after qualifying, to apply for work in NZ’s Healthcare Industry.
The programme itself consists of two courses:
*IELTS Preparation OR OET Preparation (26 weeks)
*Working in NZ – Seminars and Workshops
WIE’s English Studies for Early Childhood Education Teachers (ESET) is a programme designed for overseas trained ECE teachers to fulfill the English language requirements for teacher registration in New Zealand.
The programme consists of an Intensive English Study for 26 weeks, which includes seminars and workshops. The seminars and workshops are designed to introduce teachers to New Zealand education industry, living in New Zealand and workplace culture. The teachers would also be taught how to write a CV, search for jobs, apply for jobs and attend an interview. During the course, teachers will be assisted by WIE’s job recruitment partners to obtain part-time work* of up to 20 hours per week.
WIE’s English study for Electronics Engineers (ESEE) is a programme designed for overseas trained electronics engineers to enable them to improve and develop their English skills in order to be able to seek employment or continue their studies in New Zealand.
The programme consists of an Intensive English Study for 26 weeks, which includes seminars and workshops. The seminars and workshops are designed to introduce electronics engineers to New Zealand electronics engineering industry (including the workplace language such as vocabulary and common industry terminologies), living in New Zealand and workplace culture. The engineers would also be taught on how to write a CV, search for jobs, apply for jobs and attend an interview. During the course, engineers will be assisted by WIE’s job recruitment partners to obtain part-time work* of up to 20 hours per week.
WIE’S English Studies for Aviation course has been developed specifically for people who work in the Aviation industry and who need to comply with the International Civil Aviation Organisation's (ICAO's) language proficiency requirements.
The course is designed to assist aviation students to reach the required ICAO Level 4 of English language proficiency, while building confidence with conversational skills and technical language needed for use during training and active duty.
Waikato Institute of Education is pleased to be able to offer a teacher training course specifically designed for Chinese/Korean teachers of English involved in preparing students for the IELTS test. The Length of course is 4 weeks (the course can be shortened or extended according to the particular needs of the group). The course will be taught by highly experienced and qualified staff, all very experienced teacher trainers, IELTS teachers and examiners, who have taught in a variety of countries and teaching contexts.
